"For my compañeras and me, working with the Fundación Adelante has been such a great opportunity! Not only have we invested in our businesses, but we've invested in ourselves and our families. Our skills and hard work, combined with Adelante's investment and support, has taught us to value ourselves. We see ourselves as business owners, with skills worth investing in and developing. We feel more confident and independent and know that we can also bring money into our home to support our families and contribute to their wellbeing." Filena Lucia Almendares |

"I have had loans with other institutions before, and with a bank, but I like Adelante best, and I have stopped working with [those] other groups. I started working with Adelante when a neighbor told me about the organization. They were looking for more responsible people to join their Asamblea. It's important that people are responsible and are trusted by the group, because the whole group is responsible for the loan. If one person misses a payment, the group has to find a way to make that payment." Gloria García |

"I have enjoyed watching my business grow with loans from Adelante and have noticed improvements in my life and business because of my work with the organization. What I have enjoyed most about involvement with Adelante has been the meetings and educational charlas or talks at my Asamblea twice a month. The talks about business and health have been very useful, and I have been able to put into practice the issues covered in both my business and personal life." Elsa Eulalia Hernandez |

"I first heard about Adelante when my daughter-in-law told me about the organization and invited me to come along to a meeting. My daughter-in-law no longer has loans with Adelante, but I am working on my fourth loan." Throughout the Asamblea , Ismelda smiles and laughs easily and talks openly about how much she appreciates Adelante's support and how much she enjoys working with the organization.

"I have a dream to soon build my own little home. Right now I live in my daughter's house, but last year I bought myself a little piece of land. Now I need to save up money to buy the materials to build my house. This will take a lot of work, but I'm excited about my little house and I am sure that with my motivation, hard work and some help from my Adelante loans, I'll be able to make it happen!" Currently in her second loan cycle with Adelante, Catalina says her business has flourished with the business education and capital she has received. She buys bedspreads and used clothing and re-sells them in her own and surrounding towns. "I used to buy a blouse, for example, and re-sell it without calculating my cost. I hardly made any money. Now I know that if I buy the blouse for 40 lempiras I should try to sell it for 80." Catalina Romero |

"I am very happy because before Adelante I was very poor. My house used to be made of straw. Now with my earnings I've built a house of cement. I've bought some furniture and a stove. I have no doubt that I'll always continue working."

"Thanks to my business I've been able to buy notebooks, uniforms and shoes for my children to attend school. And now we eat better. Before I had no way of working and so I had no money. Now I have money. I've bought a bed and pans. Through the education program I've learned how to help educate my children."

"I used to be so poor that I didn't dress well and I couldn't provide for my children. I couldn't even afford milk for my baby. Now that I've joined Adelante Foundation my life is wonderful – I can now buy milk and sometimes even have chicken with our rice. I had lived in a straw house, but now I've built one of adobe. I've also learned how to provide better for my family's health from the education classes."

"Before I joined Adelante Foundation I didn't have any hope of having my own job. Now I have my own business and my life has gotten better. I've bought a stove and refrigerator. My goal now is to be able to buy my own house and pay for my children's education."

"In the past, in order to run my business I had to go to loan sharks to borrow the money to buy the products I resell. Now that I can get fair loans from Adelante I no longer have to do that and my earnings have improved. I've been able to replace my straw house for one made of adobe and my family eats better."

"Before Adelante I felt stressed because we could not afford to eat much. Sometimes we couldn't even buy milk for the children. Now I have a small business and we have enough to eat. I've also learned a lot from the education program. I have more patience with my children and I take better care of myself."
