Dora Lezy Suazo of the Mujeres hacia el Futuro Assembly

Like many Adelante clients, Dora Suazo's dream is to see her children have a better life than hers. Dora has four children, ranging in age from eight to fifteen years old. Her oldest daughter is currently in high school and has ambitions to become a nurse or a doctor; Dora plans to do everything she can to make that dream a reality.

A member of the "Mujeres hacia el Futuro (Women toward the Future)" assembly, Dora has been an Adelante client and her assembly's community educator for two years.   With her first Adelante loan Dora made bread and nacatamales (steamed corncakes) to sell. Then, last December she opened a pulperia, or small convenience store, in her home. She lives next to the highway and says that her strategic location has helped her business grow quickly. Dora recently began her fourth loan cycle. With her first business Dora earned about L.300 ($15.80) per week, and now, the profits from her pulperia are about L.500 ($26.32) per week.

With her increased household income Dora built a new cement oven in her home and can afford to send all of her children to school. Dora's future goals include painting her home and expanding the pulperia. Dora and her compañeras have been very satisfied with Adelante's customer service, especially from credit officer, Ethel Mejia. The members of "Mujeres Hacia el Futuro" value the prompt issue of new loans (as soon as they have paid off the previous loans in full). They are so appreciative of Adelante's support that they're recruiting new clients - Dora's mother and sister plan to become involved with Adelante!

Adelante at the Sustainable Opportunities Summit

The Sustainable Opportunities Summit was a success!  We were impressed by the movement of progressive and philanthropic people and ideas and were excited to be a part of it.  Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth.  We appreciate your support and commitment, and we value the connections that were made!  Thank you to the Summit's host, CORE, for their organization efforts and hospitality!   For more information about the summit visit www.corecolorado.org.
